Authorities In UP Demolish Residence Of Changur Baba's Aide Over Mass Conversion Racket: Video
ED steps into UP’s mass conversion racket probe; bulldozers target aide Sabroz’s property as funding trail reveals ₹106 crore from the Middle East.

Authorities in Uttar Pradesh's Balrampur district on Saturday demolished properties linked to Sabroz, an aide of Jalaluddin Shah, also known as Chhangur Baba, the main accused in a mass religious conversion case.
The action was taken under heavy police presence and the police said that he was duly given a notice for the razed structures, which they called illegal.
"He was given all the chances to obey to the orders, but when he failed to do that, the government is demolishing the illegal construction," said Balrampur Additional Superintendent of Police, Vishal Pandey.

Rs 106 Crore Funding Trail Under ED Scanner
The ED registered a case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), following an FIR by the UP Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS). Preliminary findings point to a foreign funding trail worth ₹106 crore, allegedly routed through hawala channels and over 40 bank accounts. The funds reportedly originated from various Middle Eastern countries.
“Chhaangur Baba and his associates had travelled to different Islamic countries for over 50 times in the past few years,” a senior police official disclosed, indicating a deep international network.
Chhangur Baba: From Taweez Seller to ‘Sufi Preacher’
Jalaluddin Shah, popularly known as Chhangur Baba, began as a taweez and gemstone vendor cycling through villages. By 2015, he had rebranded himself as a spiritual leader—‘Peer Baba’ or ‘Hazrat Baba Jalaluddin’—operating from the Chand Auliya Dargah in Balrampur. Authorities allege he systematically targeted the poor, widowed women, and individuals from Scheduled Castes, luring them into religious conversion using psychological manipulation, financial promises, and emotional exploitation.
His nickname, "Chhangur," is attributed to a physical trait—six fingers on one hand—which added an air of mystique to his persona.
'Rate Card' for Religious Conversion Exposed
According to the ATS, the racket maintained a shocking caste-based "rate list" for conversions: ₹15–16 lakh for Brahmin, Sardar, or Kshatriya girls, ₹10–12 lakh for OBC girls, and ₹8–10 lakh for girls from other castes
As the investigation deepens, ED officials are preparing to seek custodial remand of Chhangur Baba (real name Karimulla Shah) to probe further into the alleged financial irregularities, overseas connections, and network of properties spanning multiple states.
