Srinagar Sees Coldest Night Of Season, Temp Reaches -2°C. Mercury Dips In Other Areas

Srinagar Weather Updates: The cold wave conditions in the entire north India continues to intensify with upper reaches in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir receiving fresh snowfall.

As the winter spell covers north India, the minimum temperature has plummeted further in Kashmir while Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded the coldest night of the season at minus 2.0 degrees Celsius. The night temperature has recorded a further dip across the Kashmir valley. Several places across Kashmir including Srinagar, Qazigund, Ganderbal, Pahalgam, Kupwara, Shopian, Bandipora and Baramulla recorded the coldest night of the season.

In Qazigund, the mercury settled at minus 2.0 degrees Celsius while in Gulmarg, a minimum temperature of minus 2.2 degrees Celsius was recorded.

Pahalgam, a famous tourist place, recorded a low temperature of minus 5.1 degrees Celsius while Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded a minimum temperature of minus 2.7 degrees Celsius. According to a PTI report, the minimum temperature across Kashmir settled below the freezing point as the cold conditions intensified in the valley.

The cold wave conditions have also gripped most parts of Himachal Pradesh and it further aggravated following thunderstorms and scattered rains. Some upper reaches in the state also received snowfall due to prevailing conditions. As per the PTI report, Kahu received 19 mm rain, followed by Kandaghat 16 mm, Nainadevi 14 mm, Shillaro 10 mm, Jubbarhatti 6 mm, Rohru 5 mm, Gohar 4 mm and Shimla 3.5 mm and Mandi and Sunni 2 mm each.

Keylong was the coldest in the state with a low of minus 7.3 degrees while Sumdo, Kalpa and Manali recorded night temperatures at minus 2.8 degrees, minus 1.6 degrees and minus 0.6 degrees while Narkanda shivered at 0.4 degrees. According to PTI, the minimum temperatures dropped by a few notches in other areas as well -- Reckongpeo 0.9 degrees, Seobagh 1.8 degrees, Bhuntar 2.1 degrees and Kufri 2.5 degrees.

The local Meteorological station has predicted a dry spell in the state till December 11.

Meanwhile in the national capital Delhi, the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) has began shifting people to tents and shelter homes amid increasing cold wave conditions.
