Maha CM Shinde Holds 'Positive' Discussion With Maratha Quota Activist Patil, Assures 'Concrete' Decision Today
Amid the ongoing agitation over the Maratha reservation, Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde has talked to activist Manoj Jarange Patil on the phone, days after the latter sat on an indefinite hunger strike.
Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde has held a telephonic conversation with Maratha reservation activist Manoj Jarange Patil a day after the agitation turned violent and protesters vandalised the homes of several MLAs. According to news agency ANI, CM Shinde inquired about the health of Jarange Patil, who is sitting on an indefinite hunger strike seeking reservation for Marathas in the state.
The agency stated that there was a positive discussion between the two regarding providing reservations to the Maratha community. CM Shinde assured Patil that a concrete decision would be taken in Monday's cabinet over giving Kunbi certificates to the Maratha community.

He also said that it was necessary to resolve the issue of the Maratha reservation legally and the government has filed a curative petition in the Supreme Court for this, reported ANI. The agency said Jarange Patil also consumed water after a satisfactory discussion with Shinde.
The protests on Monday turned violent after agitators resorted to arson and vandalism in various parts of the state targeting the homes and offices of MLAs. They also attacked a municipal council building and caused massive disruptions in road traffic, news agency PTI reported. Two NCP MLAs' houses were set on fire, and the office of another legislator from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was vandalised.
As a precautionary measure, internet services have been suspended in Beed and central Maharashtra while a curfew has also been imposed in sections of the Beed district following incidents of large-scale violence and arson.
