PM Modi In Mumbai Says He Aims To Make City A Global Fintech Capital, Maharashtra A Financial Powerhouse
PM Modi Mumbai Visit: PM Modi emphasised the speed of development brought by the NDA, highlighting Maharashtra's pivotal role in India's growth and his vision to make Mumbai a global fintech capital.
PM Modi Mumbai Visit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was on a visit to Mumbai on Saturday, inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for multiple projects worth more than Rs 29,400 crore at a function at NESCO Exhibition Centre in Goregaon. PM Modi, during his address in Mumbai, emphasised the stability and speed of development brought by the NDA government. "People know that it is the NDA government that can give stability and durability. After taking oath for the third time, I had said that the NDA government will work at thrice the speed," stated Modi.
Highlighting Maharashtra's pivotal role in India's growth, he said, "Maharashtra has a glorious history, a strong present, and dreams of a prosperous future. This state plays a significant role in building a developed India. Maharashtra has the power of industry, agriculture, and the finance sector, which has made Mumbai the financial hub of the country. Now, my goal is to use this power to make Maharashtra the biggest economic powerhouse of the world."
Modi's vision for Maharashtra includes making Mumbai a global fintech capital. "My aim is to make Maharashtra the world’s big financial powerhouse and to make Mumbai the global fintech capital," he concluded.
Modi underscored the government's focus on enhancing infrastructure to boost connectivity in Mumbai and its surrounding areas. "These projects will help in improving the connectivity in Mumbai and its neighbouring areas. These projects will also help in creating employment opportunities," he remarked.
Reflecting on the positive response from investors, he noted, "Small and big investors have welcomed our government’s third term with enthusiasm, and people are aware that only the NDA government can provide stability. After taking oath for the third time, I had said that we will work three times faster, and we can see that happening today."
The Prime Minister also addressed the employment landscape, stating, "Eight crore new jobs have been created in India in the last three to four years; this figure has silenced those spreading a fake narrative on jobs. Skill development and employment are needed, and our government is working in this direction."

India Will Become Third Largest Economy Soon: PM Modi
Later in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Indian Newspaper Society (INS) Secretariat located in the Bandra Kurla Complex of Mumbai, where he proclaimed that India is on the verge of becoming the world's third-largest economy.
In his address, Prime Minister Modi emphasised India's leadership in digital payments. "There was a time when some politicians used to say that digital transactions were not for India. They had a preconceived notion that modern technology can't work in this country," he remarked. "However, the world is witnessing the capabilities of the people of the country. Today, India is creating new records in digital transactions. Due to India's UPI and modern digital public infrastructure, the ease of living of people has improved, and it has become easier for them to send money across countries."
Prime Minister Modi also acknowledged the significant role played by the Indian Newspaper Society. "The country will benefit from the effective work done by the Indian Newspaper Society," he noted. Highlighting the media's impact, he added, "Media makes people aware of their strength. Media’s natural role is to create discourse."
Reflecting on the transformative changes in the Indian startup ecosystem, Modi stated, "Before 2014, most people were unaware of the word 'startup', but media made it reach every home."
Projects Launched By PM Modi In Mumbai
The key developmental projects launched by PM Modi include new platforms at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Station and crucial road, railway and port sector ventures.
PM Modi laid the foundation stone for Thane Borivali Tunnel Project worth Rs 16,600 crores. As per an official release issued by PMO, this Twin Tube Tunnel between Thane and Borivali alignment will be passing below Sanjay Gandhi National Park, which will create a direct connection between Western Express Highway on the Borivali side and Thane Ghodbander Road at the Thane side. The total length of the project is 11.8 km, and it will reduce the journey from Thane to Borivali by 12 Km with a saving of about 1 hour in travel time.
The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for Tunnel work at Goregaon Mulund Link Road (GMLR) Project worth over Rs 6,300 crore.
As per PMO, GMLR envisages road connectivity from the Western Express Highway at Goregaon to the Eastern Express Highway at Mulund. The total length of the GMLR is approximately 6.65 kilometres and will provide direct connectivity for Western suburbs with the New proposed airport at Navi Mumbai and Pune Mumbai Expressway.
The list of projects also includes Kalyan Yard Remodelling and Gati Shakti Multi Modal Cargo Terminal at Turbhe in Navi Mumbai. Kalyan Yard will help in the segregation of long distance and suburban traffic, the PMO said, adding that its remodelling will increase the yard's capacity to handle more trains, reducing congestion and improving the efficiency of train operations.
