MP Accident: 13 Dead, 15 Rescued After Pune-Bound Bus Falls Into Narmada River. PM Modi Expresses Grief

A Maharashtra Roadways bus going from Indore to Pune fell off Khalghat Sanjay Setu in MP. The sport where this bus fell off is said to be near the border of the Dhar and Khargone districts. 

New Delhi: A Maharashtra Roadways bus going from Indore to Pune fell off Khalghat Sanjay Setu in Madhya Pradesh's Dhar district on Monday. As per MP Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, 13 bodies have been recovered from the spot. Earlier, state minister Narottam Mishra had informed that 15 people were rescued following the incident.

Former MP chief minister and senior Congress leader Kamal Nath took to Twitter and wrote: "Received the saddening news about a bus full of passengers falling in the Narmada river at Khalghat in Dhar district. I demand that the government and administration conduct rescue work on a war footing to provide relief to the people."

According to the early inputs, this accident took place on the Agra-Mumbai (AB Road) highway. This highway connects Indore to Maharashtra. The spot is about 80 km from Indore. The place where this bus fell off the Sanjay Setu bridge is on the border of the Dhar and Khargone districts. 

Expressing grief over the incident, PM Modi said that local authorities are providing all possible assistance to those affected.

"The bus tragedy in Dhar, Madhya Pradesh is saddening. My thoughts are with those who have lost their loved ones. Rescue work is underway and local authorities are providing all possible assistance to those affected." PM Modi tweeted.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also expressed his sadness over this accident. The Chief Minister's Office informed that CM Chouhan spoke to Khargone Collector on the phone and sought detailed information about the rescue operation. "The Chief Minister's Secretariat is also in constant touch with Khargone, Dhar, and Indore district administrations in the rescue operation," it stated.

"I have given instructions to send the SDRF team and deploy additional necessary resources to the spot. Proper treatment of the injured is being ensured. I am in constant touch with Khargone and Indore district administrations," the Chief Minister stated.

"I pray to God to give peace to the souls of the dead and strength to the kin to bear this grief," he said, as informed by CMO.
