144 Section Extended In Bengaluru Till June 21 | Know What's Open

The state government had earlier eased the lockdown curbs in 19 districts after more than a month

Bengaluru: With Covid cases making surge in Bengaluru, the Karnataka government has taken a decision to extend restrictions under Section 144, which says there shouldn’t be more than four people gathering in public places with effect till June 21 in the capital city. 

As a respite for Bengalureans, the traffic snarls have come to normalcy only on Monday but the happiness didn’t stay with the denizens for long as on Tuesday morning the state government had resorted to Section 144 in the city limits.

On Tuesday morning, The Bengaluru City Police Commissioner and Additional District Magistrate Issued a circular, that read: “Section 144 CrPC (prohibiting assembly of more than 4 people in public places, except for purposes which are exempted) to remain in effect till June 21 midnight. Bus stands, railways station and airports exempt.”  

The state government had earlier eased the lockdown curbs in 19 districts after more than a month. A Complete shutdown was imposed in Karnataka on April 27 to curb the spread of Covid cases. 

With fresh guidelines in place, these are allowed to open in Bengaluru: 

  • Shops selling essential goods allowed to operate till 2 PM. 
  • All construction activities will be permitted. 
  • All industries can operate with 50 per cent staff strength. 
  • Shops selling cement, steel among others have also been allowed to open. 
  • Parks will be opened from 5 AM to 10 AM. 
  • Street vendors can do their business from 6 AM to 2 PM. 
  • Auto and taxis are allowed to ply with maximum two passengers. 
  • Important departments of the government can operate with 50 per cent staff. 
  • Hotels and restaurants will continue to do parcel service. 
  • Bars will be open for takeaways till 2 PM.

Foreignbound professionals, students trip to abroad hit uncertainity 

As many as 158 professionals and students still await for vaccination certificate despite getting both the jabs and they are stuck in the country due to the delayed generation of certificates.  

Vaccination drive for 1,470 students and professionals happened between June 1 to June 11, while all those who took first dose have gotten certificates but the 158 foreignbound professionals and students didn’t get the certificated due to which their abroad travel has come to a standstill.
