Delhi Storm Havoc: Man Dies In Nizamuddin After Electric Pole Falls On Him

The storm caused widespread damage, including uprooted trees, power outages in areas like Bawana and Narela, and disruptions to Delhi Metro services and flights.

A specially abled man lost his life in the Hazrat Nizamuddin area after a pole fell on his head while crossing the road during a storm in Delhi-NCR on Wednesday evening. However, an eyewitness confirmed that the man died after a tree fell on him after a strong gust of wind hit the area.

The incident is currently under investigation. The incident occurred after Delhi-NCR experienced a sudden change in its weather with strong winds, followed by heavy rains and a hailstorm.

"A specially abled man was crossing the road with the help of his crutches, when a strong gust of wind caused a tree to fall on him. The tree struck his head, and he was taken to the hospital, but he died on the spot. There was no support or safety for his condition," an eyewitness told the news agency IANS.

While the city was experiencing respite from the plummeting heat and humidity following the rain and high-speed wind, several parts of the NCR faced damage, like the uprooting of trees and disruption of traffic.

Power Outage In Parts Of Delhi

Power lines were also damaged in Delhi after trees and branches fell onto them following Delhi being hit by an intense dust storm along with thunderclaps, hail, and rain. In response to prevent electrocution, the electricity supply had to be temporarily suspended in certain areas.

Tata Power-DDL told ANI, "With Delhi hit by intense dust storm followed by thunderclaps, hail and rain, power disruptions were witnessed in areas across the capital such as parts of Bawana, Narela, Jahangirpuri, Civil Lines, Shakti Nagar, Model Town, Wazirabad, Dhirpur, Burari. Power lines were damaged by the falling of trees and branches onto them. To ensure public safety, electricity supply had to be temporarily suspended in certain areas as a precaution to prevent electrocution. Tata Power-DDL’s Operations and Maintenance teams are maintaining a high state of readiness, with Quick Response Teams (QRTs) swiftly addressing service complaints. Power restoration is proceeding quickly in most of the affected areas. Our teams are engaged in the swift restoration and repair of damaged power infrastructure. We appreciate the patience of our consumers. At Tata Power-DDL, your safety and well-being remain our top priority."

Metro services on the Red, Yellow, and Pink Lines were also affected after a sudden windstorm damaged overhead equipment and caused debris to fall on the tracks near Shaheed Nagar, Jahangirpuri, and Nizamuddin stations. Several domestic and international flights to Delhi airport from various airports have been halted or diverted.
