Bangladeshi National Nabbed in Delhi for Illegal Stay, Deportation Process Initiated

Delhi Police arrested Afazuddin Gazi, a 40-year-old Bangladeshi national, for illegal stay in Delhi. The FRRO has initiated the deportation process to Bangladesh.

Delhi Police have stepped up efforts against illegal immigration, leading to the arrest of several Bangladeshi nationals residing unlawfully in the city. Multiple operations over the past week have resulted in arrests and the initiation of deportation proceedings. In a recent operation, the RK Puram police arrested Afazuddin Gazi alias Gazi, a 40-year-old Bangladeshi national from Village Saigura, PS Munsiganj, District Dhaka, Bangladesh. Gazi was residing illegally in Delhi and was apprehended based on intelligence inputs. The Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) has initiated the deportation process.

Five Bangladeshi Nationals Caught Near Uttam Nagar

Earlier also in another operation, five illegal immigrants from Bangladesh were apprehended near Kali Basti close to Uttam Nagar Metro Station. During questioning, they admitted to illegally migrating from Bangladesh. Their mobile phones confirmed their Bangladeshi citizenship and local phone numbers. After completing documentation at the FRRO office in RK Puram, they were sent to a detention center at Inderlok. The arrests took place on January 4, 2025.

24 Illegal Immigrants Held in South and South East Delhi

On Wednesday, Delhi Police conducted a large-scale operation across South and South East Delhi, detaining 24 Bangladeshi nationals for illegal residency. The arrests included 13 individuals from the South District and 11 from the South East District. Documents recovered during the operation confirmed their illegal entry into India. Authorities are also examining the records of over 10 additional individuals in these areas to verify their immigration status.

On Tuesday, police detained five more Bangladeshi nationals from different parts of the city — two from Sadar Bazar and three from the Outer District — for illegal stay with forged or invalid documents.

Ongoing Verification And Crackdown

Delhi Police have been conducting regular verification drives to identify illegal immigrants. In March, a drive at Jai Hind Camp in Vasant Kunj involved checking identity documents and verifying records. This crackdown follows a directive from Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena in January to strengthen measures against illegal immigration. The LG also instructed Delhi Police to launch a public awareness campaign, urging residents to verify the identity of domestic workers and laborers for security purposes.
