New Delhi: Amid the impasse over the Lok Sabha seat-sharing between I.N.D.I.A partners Congress and TMC in West Bengal, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Thursday said party president Mallikarjun Kharge spoke to Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the two parties “will find a way forward”, news agency PTI reported.
Jairam Ramesh’s remarks came a day after the TMC supremo said her party will go it alone in all the Lok Sabha seats in Bengal.
"Congress president Kharge has spoken with her today and we will find a way forward because her objective is the objective of the INDIA bloc which is to defeat the BJP resoundingly in West Bengal and convincingly in other parts of the country. Without her, we cannot fight the BJP in Bengal and the rest of the country. She is the integral, essential pillar of the opposition bloc INDIA. She has played a crucial role in making the INDIA bloc a reality,” PTI quoted Jairam Ramesh as saying.
Meanwhile, as the Congress’s Bharat Jodo Nyay yatra reached West Bengal on Thursday, Rahul Gandhi said everyone in the grand old party would be “just delighted and privileged” if Mamata Banerjee joins the outreach campaign, even if for a very short while.
He also expressed confidence in the unity of the opposition I.N.D.I.A bloc in combating injustice nationwide and taking on BJP in the upcoming general elections.
Notably, speaking to the media earlier on Wednesday, CM Banerjee had said that her party had given a proposal on seat-sharing to the Congress, however, they denied it at the outset, following which the TMC decided to go “solo” in the Lok Sabha polls.
The Bharat Jodo Nyay yatra arrived in West Bengal from Assam and was greeted by hundreds of state Congress workers and state president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Thursday.
