'Bulldozer Action' In Mumbai's Mira Road After Stone-Pelting During Ram Temple Rally

The local body said the action was taken against illegal structures after instructions from the Maharashtra government.

New Delhi: Municipal Corporation on Tuesday demolished illegal structures and encroachments in the Naya Nagar area of Mumbai's Mira Road, two days after a clash broke out in the area during a Ram Temple Pran Pratishtha celebration.

The local civic body said the action was taken against illegal structures after instructions from the Maharashtra government.

"Illegal structures and encroachments were razed by bulldozers in the Naya Nagar area of Mira Road where Ram Mandir Pran Pratishtha celebrations were stone pelted. After instructions from the Maharashtra government, action is being taken by the Municipal Corporation with the help of the police," the Maharashtra government said.

In the Mira Road area, stones were pelted at a procession that was taken to celebrate the 'Pran Pratishtha' ceremony of Ram Mandir on Sunday.

Mumbai Police arrested 13 people, and an FIR was filed against unknown individuals after at least four cases of outraging religious sentiments were filed in the city.

According to a PTI report, the incident unfolded at approximately 10:30 pm on Sunday when a group of 10 to 12 people in three cars and on as many motorcycles conducted a rally from Naya Nagar. They chanted slogans in praise of Lord Ram ahead of the Ram temple consecration ceremony in Ayodhya. Allegedly, slogans and firecrackers triggered a confrontation with locals brandishing wooden sticks, resulting in an altercation and damage to vehicles.

The Pran Pratishtha of Ram Lalla at Ayodhya Ram Temple was held on Monday. The idol of Ram Lalla was unveiled at the ceremony after the hour-long rituals in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who led the ceremony.
