Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee Seeks Meeting With PM Modi Over 'Pending' MGNREGA Funds

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said she has sought time to meet PM Narendra Modi over the MGNREGA dues between December 18 and 20.

New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday said she has sought time to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the pending MGNREGA funds, news agency ANI reported. Speaking to the media at the Bagdogra airport near Siliguri in north Bengal, CM Banerjee said she will be visiting Delhi from December 17-20 and sought an appointment in any of the three days.

CM Banerjee said she has mentioned in her letter that she wants to meet PM Modi with some other MPs over the disbursement of funds for the 100-day work scheme.

"I am going to Delhi between 17th-20th December. I have written to the PM Modi seeking time to meet him. We have not received pending funds towards various central schemes. If every state is getting its share of the money, then why are we not getting it,” CM Mamata Banerjee said.

“They (central government) have also not given their dues. They have also stopped our share of money for health, houses, roads, and hospitals. We don’t want their money but we are demanding our share. If every other state is receiving their share of money, then why are we not being given our dues? That is why we sought time from the Prime Minister,” CM Banerjee said.

The TMC supremo further said that if PM Modi refuses to meet her then she will do “what needs to be done”.

“If he allots time then it is okay. But we will be going to Delhi for sure. We will be leaving for the national capital on December 17. We will be waiting for him to give us time on either of the three days (between December 18 and 20). But if he refuses to meet us then we will do what needs to be done,” ANI quoted the Bengal chief minister as saying.
