The elections are reported to be conducted either at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) or the Special General Meeting of the WFI.

WFI Elections date: Wrestling Federation of India elections will be held on July 6, former Jammu & Kashmir High Court Chief Justice Mahesh Mittal Kumar, the newly-appointed returning officer for Wrestling Federation of India elections, announced in a notification as per news agency PTI. The elections are reported to be conducted either at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) or the Special General Meeting of the WFI. Earlier it was reported that the WFI elections would be held on July 4, however, it was also reported that it was up to Justice Mittal Kumar to hold the long overdue WFI polls on July 4 or a few days later.

Initially, the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) elections were supossed to take place on May 7 but were declared as "null and void", following allegations of intimidation and sexual harassment on outgoing WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh from India's top wrestlers. As per directed by the Sports Ministry, the Indian Olympics Association (IOA) formed a three-member ad hoc committee on April 27, and two members were announced to run WFI's day-to-day operations and select wrestlers for international tournaments in the interim period.

Sports Minister Anurag Thakur had assured the protesting wresters that family member or associates of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh won't be allowed by the government to contest elections, following which the wrestlers had halted their stir till June 15. In March earlier this year, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh finished his third (12-year) term in office as WFI President.

"I had a long 6-hour discussion with the wrestlers. We have assured wrestlers that the probe will be completed by 15th June and chargesheets will be submitted. The election of WFI will be done by 30th June," Sports Minister Anurag Thakur had earlier said.

"All FIRs against wrestlers should be taken back. Wrestlers also requested that Brij Bhushan Singh, who has completed 3 terms and his associates should not be re-elected. Wrestlers will not hold any protest before 15th June," the Sports Minister added.
