Two Athletes Test Covid-19 Positive In Tokyo Olympic Village: Report

Coronavirus in Tokyo Olympics: The news of two athletes testing Covid-19 positive comes a day after an unidentified person became the first person to test positive for Coronavirus in Olympic Village.

With less than a week left for the start of the Olympic Games to be held in Tokyo, two athletes have become the first to test Covid-19 positive in the Tokyo Olympic Village, officials confirmed on Sunday, as per news agency AFP.

The news of two athletes testing Covid-19 positive comes a day after an unidentified person became the first person to test positive for Coronavirus in the Tokyo Olympic Village, which will house thousands of competitors.

After testing positive for the dreaded virus, both athletes have been kept in isolation. To prevent the spread of the coronavirus, the organizers of the Games announced on July 8 that no spectators would be allowed to enter the athlete venues located in Tokyo and the three surrounding prefectures, due to rising cases of Coronavirus in the Japanese capital Tokyo.

Another emergency has been imposed as the situation worsens. A similar decision was made by the Fukushima provincial government for the Azuma Baseball Stadium two days later.

International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach on Saturday called for the Tokyo Olympic Games to end the growing concern over anti-coronavirus measures after 15 cases of corona infection among foreign athletes related to the Olympic Games were reported in July alone.

"From July 1 to Friday, about 15,000 athletes, officials and others related to the Olympics and Paralympics have arrived in Tokyo," Bach told a press conference on Saturday. "Corona test of all these was done, in which only 15 have been found infected.  It's a very low rate, it's about 0.1 percent.  The infected people were immediately isolated, so they would not pose any risk to the other participants and the people of Japan.'
