Tokyo Olympics: Shuttler PV Sindhu Beats Hong Kong's Cheung Ngan Yi 2-0 To Secure Knockout Berth

. The Rio Olympics silver medalist had earlier defeated Israel's Ksenia Polikarpova 21-7, 21-10 in just 28 minutes in her opening match. 

India's star badminton player PV Sindhu defeated Hong Kong's Cheung Ngan Yi in straight sets 21-9, 21-16 at the Musashino Forest Plaza Court 2 on Wednesday to progress out of Group J to the Round of 16 and secure a spot in the knockout round. The Rio Olympics silver medalist had earlier defeated Israel's Ksenia Polikarpova 21-7, 21-10 in just 28 minutes in her opening match. Sindhu is expected to win gold this time at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics.

The 26-year-old won the first set (21-9) with ease. The first set ended in 15 minutes. Cheung tried her best to make it 1-1 in the second set but eventually failed to pull the match away from the India star shuttler. 2016 silver medallist Sindhu showed great game and captured important points to win her final group-stage match in straight sets to storm into the knockouts.

This was Sindhu's second successive win in the ongoing Tokyo Olympics, who earlier had defeated Israel's Ksenia Polikarpova 21-7, 21-10 on Sunday to start her Tokyo campaign with a win. Elsewhere on Tuesday, India men's doubles pair of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy defeated Great Britain's duo of Ben Lane and Sean Vendy in a crucial final Group A Play Stage game. The Indian duo defeated Lane and Vendy 21-17, 21-19 in their final group stage match.
