OJ Simpson, former American football player and National Football League (NFL) star, has died aged 76. The news was confirmed in a social media post from his verified account, signed by his family. Simpson was considered as one of the best American athletes of the late 1960s and 1970s.
"On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace," a post on X through his official account read.

For the unversed, Simpson was acquitted in what is dubbed as the "trial of the century" in the murder case of his wife and a male friend.
Double-Murder Case Changed OJ Simpson's Life
Notably in 1997, a civil suit filed by the victims' families initially found him liable for the deaths of Nicole Brown and Ronald L Goldman. $33.5 million was the sum of money he was ordered to pay in damages. A little of his debt was paid and moved to Florida before he continued his daily struggles with his life of raising children and other daily chores.
Simson was arrested again in 2007after he along with other men invaed a Las Vegas hotel room of sports memorabilia dealers, taking a few items. However, he cliamed that the itens had actually been stolen from him. The jury, however, found him guilty of 12 charges included robbery and kidnapping. He was sentended to a 9 to 33 years of prison sentence in a Nevada state prison but served the minimum term before being released in 2017.
