MS Dhoni set to join CSK squad for IPL 2018 edition

New Delhi [India], December 6 (ANI): Former India Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni's path to join the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) squad has been cleared after the IPL Governing Council on Wednesday allowed retention of maximum three players for the 2018 edition.

The IPL Governing Council, along with the Committee of Administrators (CoA), discussed player retention, salary cap, player regulations and other related issues in a meeting held in the national capital.

BCCI Acting Secretary Amitabh Choudhary in a statement after the meeting said, "The player pool available for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) for retention/RTM will be the players' who played for them respectively in IPL 2015 and who were part of Rising Pune Supergiant and Gujarat Lions squads in IPL 2017.

CSK and RR were banned from the IPL for two seasons in July 2015 following some of their team owners' involvement in corruption.

Two new teams, Rising Pune Supergiant and Gujarat Lions squads were introduced to replace the suspended teams.

Dhoni has been associated with the CSK since the introduction of the team in 2018 and led them to two IPL titles in 2010 and 2011.

The auction for the new IPL season will begin in February. (ANI)
