Dustin Poirier beat Conor McGregor via doctor stoppage after the former dual weight champion injured his ankle with seconds remaining in the first round at UFC 264 main event on Saturday night at a sold-out arena in Las Vegas.
The thrilling battle between McGregor and Poirier had to be stopped as the Irishman was not able to continue after his ankle buckled underneath him.

Post his sixth win over McGregor in six months, Dustin Poirier has won the trilogy 2-1. He is now all set for next lightweight title shot. In the opening round, Poirier was mostly in control as he had successfully landed many strikes on the Irishman before getting control over him on the ground.

“I felt something, for sure,” Poirier said. “He fractured it on one of the kicks at the beginning of the fight, and then he broke it.”
Just when official ring announcer Bruce Buffer came in the middle of the ring to announce the final result, an irate and furious McGregor was heard yelling: “Doctor stoppage, doctor stoppage, doctor stoppage – tell them doctor stoppage! That’s a doctor stoppage.”
“I was boxing the bleeding head off him, kicking the bleeding leg off him,” McGregor said while sitting against the fence during his post-fight interview. The 32-year-old was soon carried out on a stretcher for medical treatment.
