Kumble steps down: Abhinav Bindra has an important message for Virat Kohli
New Delhi: Acknowledging the rift with Captain Virat Kohli, legendary leg-spinner Anil Kumble on Tuesday decided against continuing in his post as the head coach of the Indian cricket team. While entire Indian team travelled for short West Indies tour, Kumble decided to skip the tour citing personal reason and it was soon followed by a resignation letter. The former Indian cricketer made his statement public through social networking site Twitter, where he termed his partnership with captain Virat Kohli as “untenable”, and Kohli had apprehensions with his style of coaching. As soon as the news broke out, people from the cricketing fraternity patted Kumble for his work during the one-year stint. But one tweet that grabbed headlines came from India’s only individual gold medalist Abhinav Bindra. The Ace shooter indirectly slammed skipper Virat Kohli in a suggestive tweet. Bindra wrote, “My biggest teachers was coach Uwe.I hated him!But stuck with him for 20 years. He always told me things I did not want to hear. #justsaying” The 46-year-old took over from Ravi Shastri in 2016 and took India to top Test spot. The team did well under Kumble in the past 12 months, winning Test series in the West Indies (2-0) before winning at home against New Zealand (3-0), England (4-0), Bangladesh (1- 0) and Australia (2-1). The team also won eight ODIs and lost five during the 46- year-old's tenure.
