Jeswin Aldrin Breaks Men's Long Jump National Record With 8.42m Leap, Video Goes Viral

The achievement is all the more significant as Jeswin's previous personal best was 8.26m which he achieved during 2020's Federation Cup in Thenhipalam.

Tamil Nadu's Jeswin Aldrin created a new national record in the men's long jump on Thursday. The youngster broke Murali Sreeshankar's previous record of 8.36m with this third attempt of a 8.42m jump. His effort came at the second Indian Open Jumps Competition at Inspire Institute of Sport in Bellary in Karnataka where he etched his name in the history books.

The achievement is all the more significant as Jeswin's previous personal best was 8.26m which he achieved during 2020's Federation Cup in Thenhipalam. Even though he had also recorded a jump of 8.37m in the same tournament but that was a wind-assisted attempt.

"NATIONAL RECORD ALERT. Tamil Nadu’s Jeswin Aldrin creates a new national record in Men’s Long Jump at the 2nd Indian Open Jumps Competition. With a jump of 8.42m, Jeswin broke Murali Sreeshankar’s record of 8.36m. Congratulations Jeswin! Way to go," the Athletics Federation of India tweeted.

Such was the 21-year-old's dominance in the competition that he remained the only long jumper participating in the event to surpass the eight-metre mark. While he opened with a 8.05m jump, his second  jump was of 8.26 jump. It was then that he came up with a record-breaking jump in his third attempt.  Muhammed Anees Yahiya finished second with a best jumpt of 7.85 metres.
