Players RCB Is Likely To Retain Ahead Of IPL 2025 Mega Auction

With the new retention rules released by the Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council (GC), here's a list of players that Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are likely to retain for the IPL 2025.

With the new retention rules announced by the Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council (GC) ahead of the IPL mega auction later in the year, there is a lot of talk about what strategies could the IPL franchises utilise while assembling their best-possible teams. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are one of the four sides in the current lot of 10 teams who have never gone on to win the IPL championship trophy. Despite boasting of some world-renowned names, RCB have managed to make three final appearances, but could win none.

The new regulations will allow each IPL franchise to retain a maximum of six players from their respective existing squads, using the regular retention method along with the Right to Match (RTM) card option. Additionally, there’s also the ‘Uncapped player’ rule which has made its return, allowing Indian players who have retired, haven't been part of India's playing XI, or haven't held a BCCI contract for the past five years to play as uncapped players.

As RCB aim to lift their first trophy in the IPL 2025, let’s look at the players they might retain ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Possible Retention List For RCB Ahead Of IPL 2025 Mega Auction

Virat Kohli (Retention)

Picking Virat Kohli would be a no-brainer for RCB. The former RCB captain is expected to be one of the six players retained by the franchise, especially with the likelihood of RCB releasing current skipper Faf du Plessis, who is now 40.

Glenn Maxwell or Cameron Green (Retention)

RCB are likely to retain one of the two Australian all-rounders—Cameron Green and Glenn Maxwell—for a retention spot at RCB. While Maxwell’s experience and X-factor give him an edge, his poor IPL 2024 season might push Bengaluru to favour Green.

Will Jacks (RTM)

Hard-hitting England batter Will Jacks is also a strong candidate for retention by RCB for the IPL 2025 season. The 25-year-old lived up to expectations in the 2024 edition, scoring 230 runs in eight matches at an impressive strike rate of 175.57. Including an unbeaten 100 off just 41 balls.

Mohammed Siraj (Retention)

Veteran pacer Mohammed Siraj is another strong contender for RCB's retention list ahead of IPL 2025. The right-arm quick had a solid season, picking up 15 wickets in 14 matches at an average of 33.07. Known for not having a solid bowling line-up, RCB are most likely to retain Siraj.

Rajat Patidar (RTM)

Despite a slow start to the season, Rajat Patidar made a strong comeback and played a crucial role in helping RCB reach the playoffs. Patidar amassed 395 runs in 15 matches at an average of 30.38 and an impressive strike rate of 177.13, with five half-centuries. He is also likely to be picked in the auction using the RTM option.

Yash Dayal (Uncapped Player)

Left-arm pacer Yash Dayal, still uncapped, took 15 wickets in 14 matches at an average of 30.60. Notably, Dayal dismissed MS Dhoni in the last over of a must-win game against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), showing impressive composure under pressure. He could be the pick for RCB for the ‘uncapped’ retention category.
