Kevin Pietersen Thinks Virat Kohli Can Get Back To His Best As 'Burden Of Captaincy' Taken Away

Pietersen was all praises for Virat Kohli and feels that with the 'burden of captaincy' taken away from the former Indian skipper, he will play with much more freedom.

New Delhi: Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) is just around the corner and the top stars of cricket are gearing up to battle out for the biggest prize in league T20 cricket. Former RCB and England batsman, Kevin Pietersen shared his thoughts on the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League.

Pietersen was all praises for Virat Kohli and feels that with the 'burden of captaincy' taken away from the former Indian skipper, he will play with much more freedom and score considerably more runs to establish himself as the 'greatest' player in the IPL.

"The burden of captaincy being taken away from him at RCB may help, too. He can focus purely on entertaining the fans who adore him so much," Pietersen said on his Betway blog.

"Hopefully the return of crowds at this event is the start of things getting back to normal. If so, he’ll go back to being the greatest –because he is the greatest," he added.

Further, Pietersen suggested adopting a football-like transfer market and do away with the current Mega-Auction system. He feels that three years is less time for any team to build on its core.

"I actually don’t like the mega auctions much. It means that every three years everything is basically thrown up in the air and we start again, just as franchises are building their identities and brands," KP said.

Pietersen also praised the Chennai Super Kings' decision to promote Ravindra Jadeja as the captain of their team. "[CSK] obviously decided that the time is right to move on from MS Dhoni, but it doesn’t surprise me that they’ve turned to Ravi Jadeja – another cool head who will make good decisions. Jadeja is an outstanding thinker and a very experienced T20 player, so CSK have a good chance of surprising everybody again."
