Shreyas Iyer On Brink Of Six-Hitting Record In IPL 2025
For Punjab captain Shreyas Iyer, IPL 2025 Final match could also be a personal milestone.

Sunday will be a special day for Indian cricket fans as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) face Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the IPL 2025 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The match promises to be historic, as one of the two franchises will lift the IPL trophy for the first time. For Punjab captain Shreyas Iyer, it could also be a personal milestone.
Four sixes away from a record
Iyer has a chance to break the record for the most sixes hit in a single IPL season. He currently has 39 sixes in the 2025 season. If he hits four more in the final, he will surpass Abhishek Sharma’s record of 42 sixes, set in 2024 while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Most Sixes in a Single IPL Season:
42 – Abhishek Sharma (2024)
39 – Shreyas Iyer (2025)
38 – Suryakumar Yadav (2025)
38 – Virat Kohli (2016 & 2024)
37 – Rishabh Pant (2018)
Heroics in the Qualifier
Iyer was instrumental in Punjab’s win over Mumbai Indians in the second qualifier. He scored a stunning 87 off just 41 balls, smashing 8 sixes and leading the chase of a 204-run target with six balls to spare. His fearless approach against Jasprit Bumrah and other top bowlers earned him the Player of the Match award.
Chance to Become a Two-Team Champion
If Iyer leads Punjab Kings (PBKS) to victory, he will become the first captain in Indian Premier League (IPL) history to win the title with two different teams. He previously captained Delhi Capitals to the final in 2020 but fell short. Now, he has the chance to etch his name in the record books with a historic win for Punjab.
With a title, a six-hitting record, and a legacy on the line, Shreyas Iyer enters the IPL 2025 final just a few steps away from history.
