IPL Auction 2021: As Usual, CSK Choose Stability Over Flamboyance, Core Still Intact
Moeen Ali was the only foreign player bought by the CSK at the Auction 2021 as there was just one overseas slot remaining. There won’t be any fundamental changes in the playing eleven.
The IPL Auction 2021 was a mini-auction and thus a lot of teams spent a lot of money on players which they really wanted. Thus the likes of Jamieson, Richardson, K Gowtham, Riley Meredith and Shahrukh Khan were bought for amounts they wouldn’t have imagined. Actually, the teams had limited slots to fill and the amount they had was considerably high. Thus, teams like RCB and Punjab Kings spent a lot on specific players. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) also bought Gowtham for a whopping 9.25 crores rupees.
CSK wanted to include a spin bowling option in their team and Moeen Ali was the bes bet as he could bowl four over and also bat down the order to score some quick runs. Ali’s innings in the second Test match against India would be remembered by many for blasting the Indian spinners at the back of the innings.
CSK also got a few uncapped players in their ranks. With Dhoni, Raina, Rayudu, Jadeja, du Plessis and Bravo in the team, CSK looks as good as ever.
Applause for Cheteshwar Pujara!
The entire Auction room applauded the CSK team when they bid for Cheteshwar Pujara at his base price of 50 lakh rupees. Pujara was going unsold since the last six auctions. Pujara’s inclusion in the CSK side will only be of help to the youngsters in the side. Pujara has made a reputation for himself of being a Test batsman that’s why not a lot of franchisees are interested in having Pujara in their squad.
Here’s a look at CSK’s full squad for 2021 IPL:
Chennai Super Kings: MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Ambati Rayudu, N Jagadeesan, Faf Du Plessis, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sam Curran, Ravi Jadeja, Dwayne Bravo, Mitchell Santner, Josh Hazlewood, Shardul Thakur, Karn Sharma, KM Asif, Imran Tahir, R.
