IPL Suspended, Foreign Players & Team Staffers To Return Home Soon

Tensions have been on the rise between India and Pakistan since the dreaded April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.

The 18th season of Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) has been suspended by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) due to India-Pakistan military conflict. It is understood that the BCCI, in coordination with the Indian government, will take all necessary measures to ensure the safe return of overseas players to their respective countries.

Last Thursday, IPL 2025 match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals at Dharamsala's HPCA Stadium was cancelled due to security concerns, after Pakistan launched attempted attacks in parts of Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, and Rajasthan.

"It does not look nice that cricket goes on while the country is at war," a BCCI official told PTI, confirming that IPL 2025 - originally scheduled to conclude on May 25 in Kolkata's Eden Gardens - has been suspended.

PSL 2025 shifted to UAE

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has shifted the remaining matches of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 to United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The eight remaining games were originally slated to be held in Rawalpindi, Multan, and Lahore. However, with the change in venue, Pakistani fans will now miss the chance to witness these matches live in their home stadiums.

"I regret that our domestic audience and cricket lovers will not be able to watch these matches in Pakistan's stadiums," Mohsin Naqvi said in a statement released by the PCB.

"The PCB has always stood by the position that politics and sports need to be kept apart. However, in view of the extremely irresponsible and dangerous Indian act of targeting the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, which was manifestly done to disrupt the ongoing HBL Pakistan Super League X, the PCB has decided to shift the remaining matches to UAE so that the domestic as well as foreign cricketers, who are our precious guests, can be saved from the possible reckless targeting by India," he added.

Tensions have been on the rise since the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, reportedly carried out by Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba, which killed 26 tourists and injured several others. In retaliation, India launched "Operation Sindoor," targeting multiple terror hideouts across the border.
