IPL 2025 Restart Date After Ind-Pak Ceasefire? Here's The Likely Date

The 2025 IPL season was temporarily suspended following a major security incident on May 8, when Pakistan attempted attacks on multiple Indian cities.

Following the ceasefire between India and Pakistan, the atmosphere has calmed, opening the door for the resumption of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The tournament, which was put on hold for a week due to rising border tensions, is now expected to restart from May 16.

To accommodate the lost time, the IPL schedule is likely to include more double-header matches, with the goal of concluding the tournament between May 25 and May 30. This is essential as Team India is set to tour England for a five-match Test series immediately after the IPL ends.

The 2025 IPL season was temporarily suspended following a major security incident on May 8, when Pakistan attempted attacks on multiple Indian cities.

India's defense forces successfully thwarted the threat, but several cities, including Dharamsala, experienced power outages. During this time, a match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) was underway but had to be abruptly halted as stadium lights were turned off and players were escorted to safety. The match was later officially cancelled.

12 league-stage games, 4 playoff matches pending

So far, 57 matches have been completed in IPL 2025. The PBKS vs DC game was supposed to be the 58th. Now, 12 league-stage games and 4 playoff matches are still pending.

Initially, Hyderabad and Kolkata were scheduled to host the playoff matches - with Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator in Hyderabad, and Qualifier 2 and the Final in Kolkata. However, due to recent tensions, BCCI is reportedly considering shifting all remaining matches to safer venues in South India, likely Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.
