The 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season is set to commence on March 22 (Saturday), with defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) facing Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The IPL has evolved into a global phenomenon in the cricketing world, offering international recognition to both seasoned players and emerging talents alike.

While most players look forward to featuring in the cash-rich T20 league, several players miss out on the opportunity due to various reasons. Ahead of the IPL 2025 season, several cricketers have withdrawn from the tournament ahead of its start, citing injuries or personal reasons.

Here’s a look at the players who are ruled out of the IPL 2025 season:

Harry Brook (Delhi Capitals)

England batter Harry Brook opted out of IPL 2025 to focus on his national team commitments. As per the IPL Governing Council's rule, which bars players from participating for two seasons if they withdraw for reasons other than injury, Brook has been banned from the tournament for two years. The middle-order batter was signed by Delhi Capitals for ₹6.25 crore after missing the 2024 IPL season.

Replacement: Yet to be named

Lizaad Williams (Mumbai Indians)

South African pacer Lizaad Williams has been ruled out of IPL 2025 due to an injury. The Mumbai Indians had acquired him for ₹75 lakh at the auction. He has been replaced by fellow South African Corbin Bosch, who was previously associated with Rajasthan Royals as a net bowler.

Replacement: Corbin Bosch

Brydon Carse (Sunrisers Hyderabad)

England all-rounder Brydon Carse has also been ruled out of IPL 2025 after suffering a toe injury during England’s Champions Trophy 2025 clash against Australia. Carse was bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for ₹1 crore at the previous auction but will now miss the season. He has been replaced by South African all-rounder Wiaan Mulder, who joins the franchise for ₹75 lakh.

Allah Ghazanfar (Mumbai Indians)

Afghan leg-spinner Allah Ghazanfar has been ruled out of IPL 2025 after picking up an injury ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Mumbai Indians had acquired him for ₹4.80 crore at the auction. He will be replaced by fellow Afghan spinner Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who joins the squad for ₹2 crore. 

Replacement: Mujeeb Ur Rahman

Umran Malik (KKR)

Indian pace sensation Umran Malik has been ruled out of IPL 2025 after sustaining an injury just a week before the tournament's commencement. The pacer was picked up by Kolkata Knight Riders for ₹75 lakh. Notably, Umran featured in only one match for Sunrisers Hyderabad during the 2024 season.
