Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 Playoff Qualification Scenarios For All 10 Teams

IPL 2024 Playoff scenarios: Let's have a look at what are the IPL playoff qualification chances of all 10 teams participating in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

IPL 2024 Playoff Qualification Scenarios: With the completion of 50 matches in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, the competition for the top four IPL 2024 Playoff spots has intensified; which four teams will secure berths in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 playoffs is now clearer.

As per the current standings in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 points table, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI), both five-time IPL winners, currently find themselves outside the top four. Sunrisers Hyderabad made an entry into the top four by securing a dramatic one-run win over Rajasthan Royals. Bottom-placed Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore are facing the threat of elimination from IPL 2024 playoff contention.

Let's have a look at what are the IPL playoff qualification chances of all 10 teams participating in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

A team typically needs at least 16 points to qualify for IPL 2024 Playoffs.

Chennai Super Kings: With three of their next four matches scheduled against bottom-placed teams in IPL 2024 points table—Punjab, Gujarat, and Bengaluru—alongside a clash with table-toppers RR, the stakes are high. Currently holding 10 points, CSK must secure wins in at least two matches to stay in contention for a playoff spot. Accumulating three wins would elevate CSK to the crucial 16-point mark, often the minimum requirement for playoffs. Winning all four games would guarantee CSK a playoff berth, amassing a total of 18 points.

Rajasthan Royals: Rajasthan Royals (RR) continue to remain at number one position in IPL 2024 points table with 16 points, winning 8 out of 10 matches. Despite this, Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals are yet to secure a playoff berth officially. Rajasthan Royals now do not rely on other teams' results to clinch a playoffs spot, they still have 4 matches remaining. Even winning just one of these matches would suffice to cement their place in IPL 2024 playoffs.

Kolkata Knight Riders: With 12 points from 9 matches, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are currently holding second position on IPL 2024 points table. Having secured win in 6 matches and facing defeat in 3, KKR's next 5 matches are crucial. KKR's upcoming fixtures in IPL 2024 include matches against Mumbai Indians (2 matches), Gujarat Titans, Lucknow Super Giants, and Rajasthan Royals. Winning at least 3 of these matches is imperative for KKR's playoff aspirations. However, even if KKR fails to win at least three games, their qualification remains possible depending on the results of other teams.

Royal Challengers Bangalore: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) find themselves at the bottom 10th place in IPL 2024 Points Table. With just 3 wins out of 10 matches, RCB have 6 points. Even if they were to win all four of their remaining matches, RCB would only reach a total of 14 points. Even a single defeat from here on would officially eliminate RCB from IPL 2024 playoff race.

Mumbai Indians: With 7 losses out of 10 matches, Mumbai Indians just have 6 points. Even if they manage to win all four remaining matches, the five-time IPL winners would only reach 14 points. Given the current standings, Mumbai's chances of qualifying for IPL 2024 playoffs are very slim. Any further loss would officially eliminate MI from IPL 2024 playoff race.

Punjab Kings: Punjab Kings have 8 points after winning 4 out of their 10 matches. To improve their chances of making it to IPL 2024 playoffs, Punjab Kings must win their remaining four matches to get to the crucial 16 points-mark. However, even with a perfect winning streak, Punjab Kings would still need to rely on other teams' results to secure a playoffs berth due to their poor net run rate of -0.662.

Gujarat Titans: Two-time IPL finalists Gujarat Titans (GT) face an uphill battle to reach IPL 2024 playoffs this year. Gujarat has played 10 matches, winning just 4 of them and currently occupies the eighth position in points table with 8 points. GTs net run rate is worse than the other teams, standing at -1.113. Even if Gujarat Titans manage to reach 16 points by winning all their remaining matches, their chances of qualifying for IPL 2024 playoffs would still be very slim due to their poor net run rate.

Delhi Capitals: Delhi Capitals currently stand with 5 wins (10 points) out of 11 matches and 6 losses. For Delhi Capitals to reach 16 points, have a chance at IPL 2024 playoff qualification, they must first win all three remaining matches. But even winning their remaining 3 matches won't guarantee them a playoff berth. DC's fate depends on the results of other teams due to their inferior net run rate.

Sunrisers Hyderabad: Pat Cummins-led Sunrisers Hyderabad have emerged as a formidable force in this year's IPL. With 6 wins (12 points) out of 10 matches, SRH are currently placed at number four on IPL 2024 points table. SRH's upcoming 4 matches are against MI, LSG, GT, and PBKS. To solidify their playoff berth, Sunrisers Hyderabad must win at least 3 of these matches. Winning 2 out of these 4 matches would compel SRH to rely on other teams' performances to qualify for IPL 2024 playoffs.

Lucknow Super Giants: Lucknow Super Giants have won 6 and lost 4 out of their 10 matches. With 12 points, LSG currently occupy the third position in IPL 2024 points table. LSG's upcoming 4 matches are against KKR, SRH, DC, and MI. To strengthen their position for playoff qualification, Lucknow Super Giants must secure win in at least 3 of these matches. However, if LSG manage to win only 2 matches, their fate would hinge on the performances of other teams.
