The stage is set for the opening match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, where the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will host the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium (also known as Chepauk Stadium) in Chennai on March 22 (Friday). CSK enter the 17th edition of the tournament as the defending champions, having secured their record-equalling fifth title last year by defeating the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the final.

Just before the commencement of the tournament, cricketing legend Mahendra Singh Dhoni passed on the captaincy reins of CSK to Ruturaj Gaikwad. For devoted CSK fans, this upcoming match holds special significance as it marks the beginning of a new era without MS Dhoni leading the Yellow Army. Ruturaj Gaikwad steps into his shoes, aiming to carry forward the legacy of the defending champions as they step onto the field in pursuit of further glory.

Meanwhile, under the leadership of Faf du Plessis, RCB will aim to replicate the recent triumph of the RCB women's team, who clinched the Women’s Premier League title for the first time.
