IPL 2023: Virat Kohli Fined 10 Per Cent Of Match Fee In RCB vs CSK Encounter

"Mr. Kohli admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct," the advisory released by the BCCI read.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) star Virat Kohli has been handed a 10 per cent match fees fine after Royal Challengers Bangalore's Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 home fixture against Chennai Super Kings at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Monday.

As per the official release by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Kohli was found guilty of "breaching the IPL code of conduct" as Bangalore succumbed to a eight-run defeat against the Men in Yellow in the South Indian derby.

"Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) batter Virat Kohli has been fined 10 percent of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru," the advisory said before adding: "Mr. Kohli admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct."

Even though there is no categoric mention of the reason behind Kohli's fine, it could have been imposed owing to the right-handed batter's aggressive celebration after the dismissal of CSK's Shivam Dube who scored 52 off 26 balls before being dismissed by Wayne Parnell.

Talking about the match, the home team won the toss and opted to field first. However, Chennai Super Kings made the best use of the conditions and scored a massive 226/6 with Devon Conway top-scoring for them with 83 off 45 balls. Apart from Dube and Conway's half-centuries, Ajinkya Rahane continued his silken touch in the competition and scored 37 off 20.

In response, Glenn Maxwell's 76 off 36 balls along with Faf du Plessis' 62 off 33 brought Bangalore close but eventually they ended their 20 overs at 218/8. Dinesh Karthik also chipped in with a 28 off 14 balls but they couldn't get past the Chennai total. Tushar Deshpande and Matheesha Pathirana scalped 3 wickets apiece for the four-time winners conceding 45 and 42 runs respectively.

This was Chennai's third win in five matches and Bangalore's third defeat in five fixtures.
