IPL 2023: Former India Spinner Wants Rohit Sharma To Bat At this Number - See Details

Rohit was handed over the captaincy duties back in 2013 when he was asked to replace the legendary Ricky Ponting.

As IPL 2023 is just a day from us, Mumbai Indians under the leadership of Rohit Sharma will be looking to get back on their winning ways going. Rohit was handed over the captaincy duties back in 2013 when he was asked to replace the legendary Ricky Ponting. Ever since Sharma became Mumbai’s skipper, the franchise has won 5 IPL titles from 2013 to 2020.

Former India cricketer Anil Kumble expressed his views on Rohit’s leadership style ahead of the IPL 2023.

“He was not afraid to say what he had to say. He had plenty of experience around him and he reached out to them as well but then but took his own decisions. That’s what you want from a captain,” he said on JioCinema’s Insiders Preview.

“2017 was a new team and the kind of captaincy we saw from him in terms of defending low scores, that’s when your true leadership comes out.”

The former leg spinner also said that he wants Rohit to bat at number four. To justify this statement, Kumble said, “Especially with the current MI team, you need that experience in the middle order. There are some wonderful batters that MI possess, but I think someone like Rohit Sharma in the middle, controlling seven to fifteen overs is extremely critical.”

As per the report stated by The Indian Express, if Rohit wants to sit out in a few games, Mumbai already has a plan in place for that. Suryakumar Yadav will lead the side in place of Rohit if the hitman wants to take some time off. Earlier, Mumbai Indians took to their Twitter handle where Rohit Sharma was spotted batting during Mumbai's practice session.

Mumbai Indians will be starting their IPL 2023 run by facing Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 2.
