Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh In Fray To Buy New IPL Team

IPL: Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh amongst 20 buyers bidding for two new teams.

As the Indian Premier League (IPL) is set to be expanded to a 10-team tournament from an 8-team one, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is looking for potential buyers for the two new teams. Sources tell that Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh - the star Bollywood couple - are also ready to enter the race to buy a new IPL team.

Their eligibility could be tested as two new teams could go up to 3000 crores. Man United owners Glazer family, an American consortium, a Pharma giant, and Adani and RPG Goenka owners are in the race for the new IPL teams.

It is no longer believed that the Adani group and RPG Goenka are the favorites to buy the new IPL team as there are many potential bidders. However, only those satisfying the eligibility criteria set out in the ITT and subject to other terms and conditions would be eligible to bid.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), decided to extend the deadline to purchase the tender document for two new Indian Premier League (IPL) teams slated to be introduced in the 2022 season. The earlier date of the 'Invitation to Tender' (ITT) document, issued by Governing Council of IPL has been postponed from 10 October 2021 to 20 October 2021.

It was also reported that overseas investors are eligible to submit a bid if they meet some conditions, but BCCI is not keen on picking a foreign company. The board is reportedly interested in an Indian buyer.
