Not Sure When Cricket Could Resume, Yet To Discuss IPL Schedule: BCCI President Sourav Ganguly

“We can’t say what will happen in the days to come. It is tough to predict. We are looking at all options. We are still not sure when cricket could resume,” Ganguly told Sportskeeda when asked if there will be an IPL in 2020.

New Delhi: As the national cricket boards worldwide mull and chalk out their tentative plans to bring about some kind of resumption to cricketing activities even amid the threat of the COVID-19 pandemic not weaning off, the focus once again shifts to one of the hottest ever debates in global cricket circles on whether the 13th edition of the IPL will be held this year or not. Expressing his thoughts over the likelihood of the IPL being held this year, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly said that he is unsure and uncertain  over the possibility of staging the league in 2020, but hopes that the global pandemic to end soon. With the Union government mulling a phase-wise unlocking of the containment zones, there is a glimmer of hope that cricket will resume soon and all Ganguly can expect is to be optimistic about things gaining normalcy soon. “We can’t say what will happen in the days to come. It is tough to predict. We are looking at all options. We are still not sure when cricket could resume,” Ganguly told Sportskeeda when asked if there will be an IPL in 2020. With Covid-19 cases on an alarming rise in India, it is not possible for Ganguly or BCCI to come out with a plan for  the Indian Premier League yet. The BCCI president reiterated that no discussion has taken place in the board regarding the schedule of the tournament. “If at all, IPL does happen, we don’t know where it could happen. India would certainly like to host the event, provided the environment is safe. Right now, we are not in a position to say anything. It is too early. We are yet to officially discuss the IPL schedule. But it depends on the safety of the environment. Saving human life and breaking the coronavirus chain are more important for all of us,” Ganguly said.
