'Forget World Cup And Focus On Mumbai Indians': Brian Lara Tells Suryakumar Yadav & Ishan Kishan

Brian Lara believes Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav are either under pressure due to their place in the T20 World Cup or they have lost their appetite for victory.

New Delhi: West Indies cricket team former batsman Brian Lara has slammed the Mumbai Indians selectors for the inclusion Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav in the Mumbai squad despite poor form in IPL 2021. Lara slammed the selectors saying that the two batsmen are constantly flopping but still are getting preference over other players who also deserve a chance to showcase their talent.

The legendary Lara believes that both these players are either under pressure due to their place in the T20 World Cup or they have lost their appetite for victory. Mumbai Indians dropped Ishaan from the playing XI in the last match after poor form and now Suryakumar is also under threat.

“Maybe Indian selection (one of the reasons for the dismal showing). A lot of guys maybe are sitting back on their laurels now.

They remember the Indian team, something may be more important. But this is where your bread and butter is. Playing the IPL, this is where you have done it. Looking at Suryakumar, looking at Ishan Kishan, looking at (Saurabh) Tiwary, he looks hungrier than they are,” Lara said on Star Sports on Tuesday.

So far in IPL 14, Mumbai Indians have won five wins from 11 games and with 10 points are currently at number five in the IPL 2021 points table. In the UAE leg, Mumbai Indians have won just one out of four matches. An all-round effort from Mumbai Indians powered them to a clinical six-wicket win over Punjab Kings in their last match on Tuesday. Mumbai's next match is against Delhi Capitals on Saturday.
