New Delhi: Ind vs SA, 1st Test Day 2's play was called off without a single ball being bowled due to persistent rain in Centurion on Monday. The good news is that the forecast for the next two days is good. Also, 98 overs will be bowled each day for the remaining game. Throughout the day, many inspections were held and ultimately the umpired decided to abandon the match before Tea break. Team India will resume their 1st innings on day 3 with 272 for 3.
The three-match Test series started on December 26. Virat and Co. are aiming for a first-ever Test series win in South Africa. The next two Tests will take place in Johannesburg (Jan 3) and Cape Town (Jan 11).
Earlier on Day 1, eyebrows were raised when Virat Kohli invited South Africa to bowl first after winning the toss despite overcast conditions and a green pitch on offer but openers KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal (60) justified their captain's big decision by bringing up a 117-run stand for 1st wicket.
KL Rahul's ton and marvelous fifty from Mayank Agarwal powered India to 271/3 at Stumps on day 1.
"It's truly special. Every hundred takes something out of you and gives you a lot of joy. There are so many emotions you have to go through when you have to score a hundred.
"You have to play and fight for 6-7 hours and those are the kind of innings that really stand out and its something that as players we really cherish. I'm really happy that I could stay there not out, this is what is expected out of me," Rahul said after end of Day 1's play on Sunday.
The first day was completely dominated by the Indian batsmen and the South African bowlers were seen struggling. On behalf of the opposition team, Lungi Ngidi took the maximum three wickets for 45 runs in 17 overs. Apart from him, none of the African bowlers could succeed in taking wickets. Kagiso Rabada gave 51 runs in 20 overs, but did not get any wicket.
