Watch | Shardul Thakur Hits 2nd Fastest 50 By An Indian In Oval Test, Creates World Record

Kapil Dev still holds the record for scoring the fastest fifty by an Indian batsman in Test cricket. The legendary all-rounder had scored a fifty off just 30 balls against Pakistan in Karachi in 1982.

New Delhi: India cricket team's sensational talent Shardul Thakur (57 runs off 36 balls) completed his half-century on Day 1 of India vs England fourth Test on Thursday. Shardul completed his half-century in just 31 balls with the help of six fours and three sixes to complete his half-century. With the help of his entertaining innings, Thakur has made a new world record in England. He has become the first batsman to score the fastest fifty in Test cricket in England.

Shardul faced a total of 36 balls during his knock and played a stormy innings of 57 runs with the help of seven fours and three sixes. His fiery knock was the fastest by any batsman in Tests in England and second fastest fifty in Test cricket by any Indian batsman. 1983 World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev still holds the record for scoring the fastest fifty by an Indian batsman in Test cricket. The legendary all-rounder had scored a fifty off just 30 balls against Pakistan in Karachi in 1982.

After India witnessed a major batting collapse, Shardul along with Umesh Yadav stitched a solid partnership that helped India successful reach 191 runs before being bowled out.

Apart from Shardul, captain Virat Kohli also played an important innings of 50 runs. At the same time, KL Rahul scored 17 and Rohit Sharma scored 11 runs. For England, Chris Woakes picked four wickets and Ollie Robinson took three wickets. James Anderson and Craig Overton got one wicket each.
