Ind vs Eng, 4th Test: KL Rahul Fined For 'Showing Dissent' At Umpire's Decision

There was no need for a formal hearing as KL Rahul accepted the sanction and admitted the offence proposed by ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees. This is his first offence in the last two years.

New Delhi: Indian opener KL Rahul has been fined 15% of his match fee by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Saturday for "showing dissent" with the umpire's decision. During team India's second innings, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul stitched a solid 83-run partnership for the first wicket.

In the 34th over, England's James Anderson departed KL Rahul for 46 runs as the Indian batsman was caught off behind the stumps by Jonny Bairstow. The on-field umpire initially declared KL Rahul not out after which England took a review and the third umpire declared him out as the replays showed an edge. KL Rahul looked unhappy with the decision as he walked off. 

There was no need for a formal hearing as Rahul accepted the sanction and admitted the offence proposed by ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees. This is his first offence in the last two years.

As per a media release by the ICC, Rahul breached Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel and one demerit point will also be added to his disciplinary record.

Talking about the match, at Stumps of day 3 of India vs England 4th Test, India, with seven wickets remaining, had a 171-run lead. Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja will aim to extend India's lead on the fourth day. A 300-plus run lead will be a good 2nd innings total for India. Both the teams have won one Test each with the series levelled at 1-1. The fifth and final Test of the series will be played in Manchester from 10 September.
