Lisandro Martinez Ruled Out For Eight Weeks Due To Injury: Report

The Argentinian defender will miss out some crucial upcoming fixtures due to injury. Read below.

Manchester United have dealt a major blow in their pursuit for Top 4 finish and FA Cup as start defender Lisandro Martinez has been ruled out for atleast eight week after suffering an injury against West Ham United on Sunday, February 4. The Aregntinian suffered a knock during the game and was seen limping, before being substituted for Rafael Varane in the 71st minute. The knee injury, as stated by Erik Ten Hag in the post-match interview on Matchday 23, didn't look good and now club has released an official statement regarding the injury and his lay-off period.

Manchester United's Official Statement On Lisandro Martinez

"Lisandro Martinez has sustained an injury to the medial collateral ligament in his knee and is expected to be out of action for at least eight weeks. We all wish Licha a speedy recovery and look forward to seeing him back on the pitch later in the season," read an official statement from Manchester United.

With Lisandro Martinez ruled out, the onus lies on other defenders to step up as 'The Butcher' was doing the bits during his time on the field and now the void will be left to be filled or matches with similar intensity and consistency. The club has shown immense faith in the FIFA World Cup 2022 Qatar winner ever since he was signed from Eredivisie club Ajax Amsterdam and will now be expecting a fitter Martinez for the rest of the year as this season has seen the 26-year old constantly marred with injuries.
