Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have attained some historic milestones over the course of their inspiring career but neither has won the FIFA World Cup final.
FIFA World Cup 2022: It is being highly predicted that star footballers Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, the two legends of the sport, are likely playing their last edition of FIFA World Cup. Both footballing legends are playing in the mega sporting event for the fifth time in their respective careers. Ronaldo and Messi have attained some historic milestones over the course of their inspiring career but neither has won the FIFA World Cup final. Lionel Messi-starrer Argentina was very close to winning the cup in 2014, when they lost to Germany in the final, while, Ronaldo, as a teenager was part of Portugal national team that was knocked out in WC semi-finals in 2006.
Few days back, a picture from a promotional activity, featuring Ronaldo and Messi in one frame, had gone viral on the internet. Both players were seen playing chess in the picture. During a press conference, Ronaldo was asked to react to the viral pic, to which he said he would like to 'checkmate' Lionel Messi during FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.
"I would like to be the player to checkmate Messi, it happened in the chess game and in football, it would be magic," said Ronaldo in a press conference.
A reporter asked Ronaldo whether the outcome of the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup will decide the 'Greatest of All Time (GOAT) debate. The Portuguese footballing superstar replied by asserting that the debate will continue even if Portugal clinches the World Cup title.
"Even if I win the World Cup that debate will continue. Some people like me more, some people like me less, like in life, some like blondes, some like brunettes. The World Cup will always be a showcase. But if you tell me you won't win any more tournaments in your career, I would still be happy, given all I have achieved," said Ronaldo.
