Dhoni eyes sensational record in ODI cricket
New Delhi: India will begin the journey to identify the core of their 2019 World Cup squad when they square off against a low-on-confidence Sri Lanka in a five-match ODI series, starting August 20.
India’s limited over format wicket-keeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni will be the centre of attraction as he aims to create a record which every wicket-keeper in the ODI history failed to achieve.
The36-year-old is just needs 3 more dismissals to reach 100 stumpings mark in ODI cricket. The Ranchi-born cricketer has 97 stumpings to his name and stands behind legendary Sri Lankan cricketer Kumar Sangakkara, who retired from international cricket with 99 dismissals.
The former Indian skipper has been involved in 375 dismissals in ODI cricket, which includes 278 catches and 97 stumpings. He is placed 4th in overall execution of dismissals, with Sangakkara taking the pole position with 482, Australia’s Adam Gilchrist stands second with 472 and South Africa’s Mark Boucher taking third position with 424 dismissals.
Dhoni has represented India in 296 ODI matches, scoring 9498 runs in the process.
