In the ongoing ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, New Zealand's versatile cricketer Rachin Ravindra has maintained his outstanding form by scoring a half-century against the Netherlands at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.
Ravindra demonstrated his batting prowess by contributing 51 runs off as many deliveries against the Netherlands in Hyderabad, providing a strong start for his team. During his innings, Ravindra struck three boundaries and a solitary six. Throughout this World Cup, Ravindra has consistently showcased his excellent form, highlighted by an unbeaten century against England in the tournament's opening match in Ahmedabad.
Ravindra came to the crease after the experienced all-rounder Roelof van der Merwe dismissed opening batsman Devon Conway in the 13th over. Ravindra, in partnership with Will Young, established a crucial 77-run stand, stabilizing New Zealand's innings. This partnership also saw Young achieve his third half-century against the Dutch team.
However, Young couldn't convert his half-century into a century and was dismissed by Paul van Meekeren in the 27th over after scoring 70 runs off 80 deliveries, including seven boundaries and two sixes.
Ravindra continued his fine form, forming a 41-run partnership with Daryll Mitchell. He reached his second ODI half-century but was dismissed on the very next ball. Ravindra edged a leg-side delivery by Van der Merwe straight into the safe hands of wicket-keeper Scott Edwards, departing after scoring 51 runs.
Rachin Ravindra is making a significant impact in this year's World Cup campaign. In the opening match of the tournament on October 5, he and Devon Conway dismantled the England bowling attack. While Conway scored an unbeaten 151, Ravindra contributed 123 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Their partnership helped New Zealand chase down England's target of 283 runs with nine wickets and 83 balls to spare.
The New Zealand team will be eager to maintain their winning momentum in the 2023 ODI World Cup, aiming for a similar performance against the Netherlands. They will next be locking their horns with Bangladesh at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Friday, October 13.
