World Cup 2019: Rashid leaks 110 runs in 9 overs, becomes most expensive spinner in ODI history
Rashid's woeful figures also make him the joint second most expensive in ODI history
Ace Afghan spinner Rashid Khan was expected to do wonders in the ongoing World Cup 2019. But on Tuesday, he owned a bizarre bowling record which he would wish to overcome from as soon as possible.
The young Afghan leggie had a terrible outing at the Old Trafford against England as he was hammered for 110 runs in 9 overs. This spell turned out to be the most expensive spell in a World Cup match. It is also now the second most expensive in World Cup history.
Here are the 4 most expensive spells in World Cup history: 0/110 (9) Rashid Khan (AFG) v England (2019) 2/105 (12) Martin Snedden (NZ) v England (1983) 1/104 (10) Jason Holder (WI) v South Africa (2015) 2/101 (10) Dawlat Zadran (AFG) v Australia (2015) Rashid's woeful figures also make him the joint second most expensive in ODI history. Pakistan's left-arm Wahab Riaz had leaked 110 runs in 10 overs against England in August 2016. Rashid, who currently holds the 3rd rank in ICC ODI bowlers ranking, has been having a dry run on the English soil. He returned figures of 1 for 52 against Australia before picking up 2 for 17 against Sri Lanka. He went for 45 runs without picking up a wicket against South Africa. Meanwhile, Eoin Morgan set the world record of smashing the most number of sixes – 17 – in an ODI innings. Morgan, whose blizzard kept Jonny Bairstow's 90 and Joe Root's 88 in a shade, scored a century in sixes with 17 of them adding to 102 runs. Hot favourites and hosts England eventually piled up 397/6 in 50 overs after opting to bat first, with birthday boy Moeen Ali smashing a whirlwind 9-ball unbeaten 31 in the end. He went past 200 sixes in ODIs and raced away to his 13th ODI hundred and his first in a World Cup. The team also finished with 25 sixes, the most by a team in an ODI innings. They broke the record registered by them in the game against West Indies in February 2019.9 overs 110 runs No wickets Rashid Khan hasn't had the best day at the office so far... 😶 pic.twitter.com/DdjWNfz2MS
