Player Retentions And Releases For Women's Premier League 2024 Season - See Full List
After the inaugural edition concluded in March, all franchises conducted trials in the months leading up to finalising their retention lists.
The retention window for the upcoming TATA Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 season closed on October 15, 2023. A total of 60 players, including 21 overseas cricketers, were retained by the five WPL franchises, while 29 players were released from their existing squads. Some prominent names like Annabel Sutherland and Megan Schutt were among those released.
The Gujarat Giants, who had a challenging debut season, opted for a major overhaul, retaining only eight players. Meanwhile, the defending champions, Mumbai Indians, chose to keep their core squad largely intact and released just four players.
After the inaugural edition concluded in March, all franchises conducted trials in the months leading up to finalising their retention lists. This allowed the teams to evaluate available talent, assess the physical condition and skills of existing players, and prepare for a successful auction in the new season.
The franchises appear better prepared for this season, having had more time for scouting and assessment compared to the first season. They are now focused on building complete squads through the upcoming auction.
