WATCH: Rohit Sharma Defies Gravity To Take A Stunner At Slip Cordon
The ball was travelling towards Virat, who was posted at the first slips, but Rohit dived to his right and hung on to the ball
Ahead of the much-anticipated day-night Test, Indian skipper Virat Kohli stated that the players would struggle to catch the pink ball, especially at the slips. Certainly, Rohit Sharma proved his captain wrong by plucking an extra-ordinary diving catch to send back Bangladesh skipper Mominul Haque.
The incident happened in the 11th over when Umesh Yadav bowled a Good length delivery that moved away from the off-stump, taking a fine edge of Mominul’s bat. The ball was travelling towards Virat, who was posted at the first slips, but Rohit dived to his right and hung on to the ball.
Here’s the video:
Neither the spectators nor the players believed for a while what they saw on the field. Bangladesh spin coach Daniel Vettori was the one who couldn't believe his eyes. It was a complete stunner that took away the viewers to their utmost surprise.
Though India lost the toss and were put to bowl, the pace battery yet again ran through the Bangladesh top-order in just 20 overs. Umesh Yadav was the wrecker-in-chief as he scalped three wickets while other pacers Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma scalped one and two wickets respectively.
Earlier in the game, Bangladesh won the toss and they have decided to bat first at the Eden Gardens. They made a couple of changes in the team – Al Amin Hossain comes in for Taijul Islam and Nayeem Hasan replaces Mehidy Hasan Miraz.
The historic event was collectively inaugurated by Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee by ringing the Eden Bell.
