T20 World Cup 2024 Co-Host West Indies Get 'Terror Threat' From Pakistan: Report

T20 World Cup 2024: Cricket West Indies (CWI) CEO Jonny Graves said that the safety and security of everyone at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 is their number one priority.

While the T20 World Cup 2024 is less than a month away with the first match of the marquee cricket event set to be played on June 1, in a shocking piece of news it is now being reported that the Cricket West Indies (CWI) has received a 'terror threat' over hosting the global cricketing competition. Notably, USA and the Carribean Islands are co-hosting the T20 World Cup 2024. 

Despite the threat, CWI have assued that proper checks and balances are in place to ensure there is no risk to the major event where England will enter as the defending champions.

"We work closely with authorities in the host countries and cities, and continually monitor and evaluate the global landscape to ensure appropriate plans are in place to mitigate any risks identified to our event," Jonny Graves, the CEO of the CWI told Cricbuzz which confirmed the news of the 'terror attack'.

"We want to assure all stakeholders that safety and security of everyone at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup is our number one priority and we have a comprehensive and robust security plan in place," Graves added.

The same report has also confirmed that the threat has come from Pro-Islamic State and reads: "Pro-Islamic State (IS) media sources have launched campaigns inciting violence against sporting events, which included video messages from the Afghanistan-Pakistan branch, ISKhorasan (IS-K) which highlighted assaults in numerous countries and urged supporters to join the battlefield in their countries."

IND vs PAK T20 World Cup 2024 Match Scheduled On June 9

As far as India are concerned, the Men in Blue are set to lock horns against Ireland in their season-opening clash at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. They will then take on arch-rivals Pakistan in their next match at the same venue on June 9. The Rohit Sharma-led side will face USA in their next match in New York before a contest against Canada in their last group-stage fixture at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground, Lauderhill in Florida.
