AUS vs SCO: Australia Defeat Scotland By 5 Wickets Ensuring England's Berth In T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8s

AUS vs SCO: Mitchell Marsh-led Australia defeat Scotland by five wickets, ensuring England's place in the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2024.

AUS vs SCO: Australia (AUS) defeated Scotland (SCO) by five wickets in the 35th match of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 at the Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia on June 16 (as per India time). More than Australia, their arch-rivals and T20 World Cup 2024 defending champions England will draw respite from Australia’s win over Scotland as England’s qualification to the Super 8 stage of the T20 World Cup 2024 depended on the AUS vs SCO match result. England, with better Net Run Rate (NRR), surpassed Scotland on the Group B points table ensuring themselves a qualification to the next stage.

England, after defeating Namibia, accumulated five points in the Group B points table. Scotland too had five points to their name and if they defeated Australia, they would have been through to the Super 8 stage of the tournament. Before the AUS vs SCO match, Australia had won three matches in three, confirming their place in the Super 8s. However, Australia made it four wins in four matches after defeating Scotland, who are now eliminated from the T20 World Cup 2024. And by virtue of a better NRR, defending champions England are through to the next stage of the marquee tournament.

Australia Too Hot To Handle For Resilient Scotland

Coming to the AUS vs SCO match, Brandon McMullen led Scotland's effort with a top score of 60 off 34 balls after they were put in to bat. His aggressive play, supported by opener George Munsey’s 35-run knock pushed the scoring rate for Scotland. However, Australia managed to regain some control when McMullen fell to Adam Zampa in the 12th over.

Despite a resilient unbeaten 42 from skipper Richie Berrington, Scotland could only manage 69 runs off the last 52 balls, falling short of their goal of exceeding 200 runs.

In reply to Scotland's 180-5, half-centuries from Travis Head (68 off 49 balls) and Marcus Stoinis (59 off 29 balls) guided Australia to the target, maintaining a perfect winning record in the group with two balls to spare. Tim David's unbeaten 24 off 14 balls sealed the victory, taking Australia to 186-5.
