The nearest Indian to the landmark is Virat Kohli, who currently has 9,230 runs to his name, whereas for Australia, the nearest-active cricketer is Usman Khawaja, who currently is less than 300 runs shy off the 6000-run mark.

The Streak Is Alive!

Australia are carrying a unique streak in Test Cricket, which remains unmatched, as the most successful nation in ICC competitions have a tradition of producing legendary players and captains, who leave their mark on the sport with a huge legacy and legend behind them.

Whenever an Australian player went past the 10,000 run-mark in Test Cricket, he was the 'active' back at that moment, and fans feared that the streak will come to an end against India, as Steve Smith stood one shy off the historic mark.

However, a 'Prasidh Krishna Special' dismissed Steve Smith on 9,999 runs, and when Australia Cricket announced the squad for Sri Lanka tour, they named 'Smudge' as the skipper of the side, handing Pat Cummins a rest after a gruesome Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 series.

With his single off Prabath Jayasuriya's delivery, Steve Smith now becomes the 4th Australian to reach the 10,000 run-mark whilst being the skipper of the side.
