South African batsman Alviro Petersen charged with match fixing 

 

New Delhi: Former South African opener Alviro Petersen, who scored a century on his debut in India, has been charged with match fixing by Cricket South Africa (CSA).

Peterson has allegedly fixed matches during the 2015 edition of the South African domestic T20 competition, known as the Ram Slam. The tournament has been under close scrutiny for quite some time now. 

 

Petersen, who represents Highveld Lions, has been charged

with multiple breaches of CSA's anti-corruption code. The 35 year old opening batsman has been given 14 days to respond to the charges. 

 

Notably, Five other South African Cricketers- Gulam Bodi, Thami Tsolekile, Jean Symes, Ethy Mbhalati and Pumelela Matshikwe were banned for match fixing in the previous edition of the T20 tournament. 

 

Petersen however, has denied the charges and claimed thaqt he had kept the South African anti corruption unit informed about all the developments. 

The 35 year old opening batsman has scored 2093 runs in 36 Test matches for South Africa.
