Shubman Gill Breaks Virat Kohli's 10-year Old Captaincy Record In Deodhar Trophy Final

The talented strokemaker from Punjab eclipsed Indian captain Virat Kohli's 10-year-old record to became the youngest-known captain to lead a side in the Deodhar Trophy final.

Budding Indian strokemaker Shubman Gill re-wrote the record books in India's domestic cricketing circles when he skippered India C in the Deodhar Trophy Final. The talented strokemaker from Punjab eclipsed Indian captain Virat Kohli's 10-year-old record to became the youngest-known captain to lead a side in the Deodhar Trophy final. Gill, aged 20 years 57 days, led India C in the 47th Deodhar Trophy final against India B on Monday at the JKCA International Complex in Ranchi going past beating Kohli who had led North Zone in the Deodhar Trophy final when he was 21 years and 142 days old in 2009-10. However, the Punjab batsman had a horrid time with the bat as he was dismissed for just 1 run by Mohammad Siraj, when he slapped the ball straight to Yashasvi Jaiswal. This was the 2nd time in the ongoing Deodhar Trophy that Gill fell for just one run. Electing to bat first after winning toss, Kedar Jadhav's 86-run knock led India B to notch 283 for 7 in 50 overs. For India C, Ishan Porel finished with five wickets for 43 runs in 10 overs and also registered his second five-wicket haul in List A cricket. Earlier in the semi-finals, Shubman Gill and Mayank Agarwal smashed spectacular hundreds before Jalaj Saxena took a career-best seven-wicket haul, steering India C into the final with a massive 232-run win over India A at the JSCA Stadium on Friday. Gill (143 off 142) and Test opener Agarwal (120 off 111) shared a 226-run stand before a special knock from Suryakumar Yadav (72 not out off 29) propelled the team to 366 for three in 50 overs.
