Shardul Thakur's maiden first-class hundred has put Mumbai in pole position against Tamil Nadu in Ranji Trophy semifinal.
Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur showcased his prowess with the bat by smashing a remarkable maiden first-class century during the Ranji Trophy match against Tamil Nadu on Sunday (March 3). Thakur's aggressive and counter-attacking innings on the challenging pitch at the Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy BKC in Mumbai not only saved Mumbai from a situation which could have cost them the match but has now put them in driver's seat.
Shardul Thakur took charge against the formidable Tamil Nadu bowling attack, scoring a 89-ball century, getting to the landmark with a six. The innings proved crucial for Mumbai who were otherwise staring at a far less score than they eventually managed. Thakur reached his hundred with a commanding six off Ajith Ram in the 81st over. The maximum took Thakur to his maiden first-class ton.
Mumbai, at one stage, found themselves reeling at 106/7 in the 48th over, in response to Tamil Nadu's 146. Shardul Thakur, however, emerged as Mumbai saviour, single-handedly orchestrating a remarkable comeback. His partnership with Hardik Tamore worth over 100 pulled Mumbai out of trouble.

Mumbai Lead By 207 Runs At Stumps On Day 2
Thakur eventually got out for 109 off 104 deliveries, falling to Kuldeep Sen. However that was not the of Mumbai's innings as they ended Day 2 at 353/9, leading Tamil Nadu by 207 runs. Tanush Kotian remains unbeaten on 74 off 109 deliveries while Tushar Deshpande has scored 17 off 35 balls, a knock studded with a couple of boundaries. The two will resume batting for Mumbai on day 3. At this stage though Mumbai look clear favouries to reach the Ranji Trophy final. The other semifinal is being played betwee Vidarbha and Madhya Pradesh in Nagpur.
