Rohit Sharma Joins Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi In Unwanted List After 3-0 Loss To New Zealand
Rohit Sharma matched Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi's unwanted record after India's 3-0 loss to New Zealand.
India succumbed to a 26-run defeat in the third and final Test match against New Zealand at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, resulting in their 3-0 whitewash at home. New Zealand thus became the first team to achieve the unthinkable as the Indian team had not lost a Test series on home soil since 2012 and had never been clean swept in a home series of three or more Test matches.
The Mumbai Test was the last Test match in 2024 which was to be played on Indian soil which the Men in Blue ended up losing the match. With this India ended the year with 4 losses from 11 Test matches. India captain Rohit Sharma, thus, joined an unwanted list of most defeats as a captain in Test matches at home in a calendar year. The previous record was held by Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi all by his own who had also led a team which lost four Test matches at home in a calendar year.
Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi Had Lost 4 Test Matches As Captain At Home In 1969
Pataudi's four Test defeats at home record came back in 1969. In that year, India had lost three Test matches against New Zealand, while losing one to Australia. In 2024, Rohit's Team India lost one Test matches against England before losing three in a row to New Zealand to match that unwanted record.

The home team's defeat to BlackCaps included an 8-wicket defeat in the series opener at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, a 113-run defeat in Pune and a 26-run loss in Mumbai to lose 0-3. India will now head to Australia for a five-match Test series with a place in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final at stake.
